“He That Winneth Souls” (Part 1)

Lesson Text: Proverbs 11:30

Introduction

I.       What Does It Mean To Win Souls?

A.        What it does NOT mean.

1.         It does not mean to get people to come to church.

2.         It does not mean to get people to get people to live a better life.

3.         It does not mean to get people to get baptized and join the church.

B.         What it does mean.

1.         It does mean to get someone saved. (John 10:9; Rom. 10:13)

2.         It does mean to get someone born again. (John 3:3; 1 Pet. 1:23)

3.         It does mean to get someone to become a child of God. (John 1:12; Gal. 3:26)

C.        To win a soul to Christ means to personally lead (influence) a person to put his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior, and to demonstrate that faith by calling upon Him to save him.

II.      Why Should We Win Souls To Christ?

A.        We should win souls because it is commanded by God in the great commission.

1.         “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,” (Mat. 28:19)

2.         “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15)

3.         “And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations,” (Luke 24:47)

4.         “…as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.” (John 20:21)

5.         “…ye shall be witnesses unto me.” (Acts 1:8)

B.         We should win souls because it is how we bear fruit.

1.         “…I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit(John 15:16)

2.         “…that I might have some fruit among you also,” (Rom. 1:13)

3.         This is not to be confused with the “fruit of the Spirit.” (Gal. 5:22)

4.         The fruit of a Christian is another Christian (souls).

C.        We should win souls because it is a part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ.

1.         “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mat. 4:19)

2.         “Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17)

3.         “…from henceforth thou shalt catch men.” (Luke 5:10)

4.         All true disciples (followers) of the Lord Jesus will become soul winners.

D.        We should win souls because it is wise.

1.         “…he that winneth souls is wise.” (Pro. 11:30)

2.         “…they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament;” (Dan. 12:3)

3.         Wise means “having or showing good judgment.”

E.         We should win souls because there are special rewards.

1.         “…they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.” (Dan. 12:3)

2.         “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye…” (1 Thes. 2:19)

3.         There will definitely be a special crown for soul winners.

F.         We should win souls because the harvest is great.

1.         “The harvest truly is plenteous,” (Mat. 9:36-38)

2.         “…they are white already to harvest.” (John 4:35)

3.         The opportunity to win souls to Christ has never been greater.

G.        We should win souls because hell is real.

1.         “And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments,” (Luke 16:23)

2.         “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Rev. 20:11-15)

3.         We need a vision of the horrors of hell to stir us to action.

H.        We should win souls because it is a sin not to do so.

1.         “…to him that knoweth to do good,” (Jam. 4:17)

2.         It is both a sin against God, as well as a sin against those whom we should be seeking to win.
